Iraklis (Hercules) Simos received the B.Sc. degree in informatics, the M.Sc. degree in telecommunications engineering, and the Ph.D. degree with research on photonic devices for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) subsystems from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece, in 1998, 2000, and 2007, respectively.

From 2002 to 2012 he was with the Optical Communications Laboratory, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens where he participated in several National and European funded research projects in the fields of high speed communication systems, optical networks, photonic devices and integrated circuits for communications and sensing. In 2012 he joined the Department of Electronics Engineering in the Technological Education Institute of Piraeus as a lecturer. In 2018 he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the newly established University of West Attica as an Assistant Professor and member of the WaveComm laboratory.

Iraklis Simos has experience on the modeling and experimental investigation of various lasers sources, amplifiers and related sub-systems. His current research interests include the areas of semiconductor and fiber laser dynamics, ultrafast lasers, photonic devices for optical networks, optical signal processing and sensing. He has authored/co-authored over 60 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings.
