Nikolaos A. Stathopoulos was born in Athens, Greece. He received the Electrical Engineering diploma and Ph.D. degrees from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1984 and 1995, respectively.

He was an RF Electronics Design Engineer in the industry and Research Engineer for more than ten years. Since 1999 he has been Assistant Professor, from 2003 Associate Professor, from 2008 Professor with the Electronics Department of Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus, Greece and from 2018 a Professor with the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica.

His research interests include optical waveguides and fibers, nonlinear optics, organic LEDs, organic photovoltaics, piezoelectric devices and sensors. Recently, his research interests focus on the areas of microwave pulse compression systems and electromagnetic simulation of Fiber Bragg Grating sensors. Since 2019 is the Director of the Wireless-Optical Devices and Communication Networks Lab in the Department of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica.
